Low water mark . . . women's world surfing champion Layne Beachley took on the men yesterday in an anticipated battle of the sexes at the Energy Australia Open at Newcastle Beach. Her main rival, men's world champion Andy Irons, bowed out of the heat in third place. Beachley was fourth and said she was ``quite disappointed". Australian Bede Durbidge and Brazilian Bernardo Pigmen won the heat. Irons said Beachley was ``great", but, ``I think they have a great tour and they should surf on it."
